Aunty Mae Robinson was born in 1942, a descendant of the Yuin and Kamilaroi people. She spent her early life in Burnt Bridge near Kempsey before being forcibly removed from her mother. Her determination and power to rise above adversity led Aunty Mae to become the first Aboriginal person to graduate from the School of Education (now Western Sydney University) in 1980.

Aunty Mae made significant contributions to the education system as an Appointed Education Officer in addition to consultancy roles with the NSW Department of Education and Training. She worked tirelessly to provide Aboriginal young people with opportunities and access to education through involvement in the development of the first Aboriginal studies syllabus in Australia and education policy.

We have been honoured to have Aunty Mae Robinson’s presence at Cabramatta High School as a respected Elder of the community. In remembrance of her lifelong achievements and legacy; we commemorate her memory with the establishment of the Aunty Mae Robinson Learning Centre in 7 Block
